City authorities need to find innovative strategies to eradicate urban hunger and improve the livelihoods of the urban poor. Urban agriculture provides such a strategy by enhancing access to fresh and nutritious food, and contributing to local economic development and social inclusion of the urban poor, especially women.
Policy Formulation & Action Planning Publications Urban and Peri-Urban Agriculture Mon, 07 Nov 2011 14:21:46 +0000 Ellen Radstake 2387 at http://www.ruaf.org The growth of cities in East-Africa: consequences for urban food supply http://www.ruaf.org/node/2334
The growth of cities in East-Africa: consequences for urban food supply. Horticultural products include a large variety of vegetables, cereals, flowers, and trees. Vegetable production provides regular and high incomes to the various actors in the commodity chain and provides food to urban dwellers. Many specific techniques have been developed or adapted specifically for urban areas. If well managed, urban horticulture can play an important role in reducing socio-economic and environmental problems in cities. Urban authorities should collaborate with urban producers to strengthen the role of urban horticulture in waste recycling, community building and creating sustainable food systems.
Crop Production RUAF Publications Publications Mon, 10 Jul 2006 09:20:12 +0000 Femke Hoekstra 989 at http://www.ruaf.org Preface http://www.ruaf.org/node/987
Henk de Zeeuw
Director RUAF Foundation

In: Cities Farming for the Future - Urban Agriculture for Green and Productive Cities

Please open attached pdf-file to view the preface.
RUAF Publications Publications Thu, 06 Jul 2006 13:54:06 +0000 Femke Hoekstra 987 at http://www.ruaf.org Back page http://www.ruaf.org/node/986
In: Cities Farming for the Future - Urban Agriculture for Green and Productive Cities

RUAF Publications Publications Thu, 06 Jul 2006 12:51:39 +0000 Femke Hoekstra 986 at http://www.ruaf.org Publishers http://www.ruaf.org/node/985
In: Cities Farming for the Future - Urban Agriculture for Green and Productive Cities

RUAF Publications Publications Thu, 06 Jul 2006 12:50:21 +0000 Femke Hoekstra 985 at http://www.ruaf.org General Resources http://www.ruaf.org/node/984
In: Cities Farming for the Future - Urban Agriculture for Green and Productive Cities

RUAF Publications Publications Thu, 06 Jul 2006 12:50:01 +0000 Femke Hoekstra 984 at http://www.ruaf.org RUAF Partners List http://www.ruaf.org/node/983
In: Cities Farming for the Future - Urban Agriculture for Green and Productive Cities

RUAF Publications Publications Thu, 06 Jul 2006 12:47:35 +0000 Femke Hoekstra 983 at http://www.ruaf.org
