City Harvest is an online resource aiming to document the social, educational, environmental, economic and health-related impacts of urban agriculture, as well as case studies which provide working examples of urban agriculture in action. City Harvest is managed by Sustain: The alliance for better food and farming.

Growing Greener Cities

This month we have published a new FAO website, “Growing Greener Cities”, in English, French and Spanish. At present, the website includes information on:
• the contribution of UPH to food security, livelihoods, environmental protection, good governance and community development
• FAO’s five-point strategy for development of the UPH sector
• FAO projects for UPH development in Africa and Latin America
• the “International symposium on Urban and peri-urban horticulture” to be held in Dakar, Senegal (5-9 December 2010)

AKVO

AKVO is a platform for water and sanitation projects. Akvo means 'water' in Esperanto. Akvo uses the Internet to make sure donations are linked directly to local projects. Akvo makes it easy for donors to choose projects and for local field teams to share short text and picture updates online, so everyone can follow progress.

 

Optimization of vacant land for urban agriculture

This presentation describes the process of the "Optimization of vacant land for urban agriculture", a programme simultaneously implemented in 3 cities in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The programme was coordinated by the Urban Management Programme - Regional Coordination for Latin America and the Caribbean (UMP-LAC/UNHABITAT), IPES-Promocion for Sustainable Development Research Centre (IDRC),  and implemented with support of the Municipality of Rosario, CEPAR and CEAH - National University of Rosario.
