Henk de Zeeuw The current challenge posed by climate change and its interaction with urban poverty and food security is recognised globally. As highlighted in the international conference organised by UN-Habitat (2009) “Cities are a major part of the cause and are suffering the most impacts and therefore play a primary role in finding the appropriate solution.” This article will discuss the potential contributions of urban and periurban agriculture and forestry to climate change adaptation and mitigation, and the role and approach of RUAF.
