The new English language, interdisciplinary Masters degree program "International Cooperation and Urban Development" at Darmstadt University has started successfully with students from Cuba, Vietnam, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Venezuela and the US! It addresses the possibilities to prevent or alleviate the problems invariably associated with rapid urbanization processes in Latin America, Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe. Since conventional wisdom of town planning has proven of little use to deal with this highly complex phenomenon, this postgraduate program aims at qualifying professionals for conceiving and directing forward-looking urban management approaches that comprehensively incorporate physical, managerial, economic and social elements.

The 2-year course is innovative in its interdisciplinary set-up, arranging knowledge around an emerging global phenomenon rather than starting from the conventional academic faculty framework.

The program aims at qualifying professionals in the field of urban management in developing countries and is taught by some of the most renowned experts worldwide.
